Moving to a new place is exciting, but it involves so much tedious work. Packing and moving everything is a pain. Without much of a plan, it can become a chaotic experience. That’s why we’ve jotted down some tips and tricks, so you have an easier time on the actual moving day.
With this help, you will face fewer problems and move more quickly. The process would be more peaceful whether you use movers or not. So, without further ado, here are some tips to prepare for moving day.
01. Make a Checklist
Making a moving checklist is very helpful in organizing all your tasks. Rather than waste any time trying to remember the things you have to do, which would be many, you can check them off the list.
Add things like shutting off your utilities, forwarding your mail, and getting packing materials to your list. You can add whatever else you want to do to your list, too. Once you have written everything down, you can put it all in order so you can do everything in the correct sequence.
02. Declutter Your Home
Before you become overwhelmed with so much packing, it’s best to take a day or two to remove all the items you don’t really want to take with you. You can sell and give away things to make your move easier. Not only will there be fewer things to pack, but you will also have fewer things to carry and move on moving day.
You can declutter clothes, extra furniture, knick-knacks, or other things not necessary in the new home. Think about organizing a garage sale to get rid of a lot of things at once.
03. Start Packing Earlier On
There are things we use every day, and then there’s stuff we pull out only when it’s necessary. You can start packing non-essential things earlier on, knowing you will not need to use them again before the move.
You can make packing a lot easier if you start packing much earlier and get some done every day. In the end, there would be fewer and fewer things left to pack as the actual move date gets closer and closer.
04. Make a Budget
Can you afford professional residential movers, or would you have to handle it on your own? You will know for sure once you have prepared a budget. Making a budget for all the expected expenses like packing materials, moving fuel, or mover’s fees will help you not overspend on moving and make an informed decision.
05. Pack Things Room by Room
If you have trouble organizing things, here’s a tip for you. Go one room at a time, and pack everything according to that room, then label it. So, all your bathroom items would be in some boxes, and all your bedroom things would be in another set of boxes.
That way, when you get to the new house, you can start unpacking room by room, too. You can make lists of things each room has to help check if everything arrived once you’ve moved.
06. Get Creative With Packing
If you want to pack everything compactly and safely and save money at the same time, you can get creative. Instead of buying so much bubble wrap, you can wrap fragile items in towels or bedding.
You can also put things that aren’t suitable for boxes in suitcases. Come up with your own space-saving ideas, too. Thinking outside of the box will help you pack everything better and save money.
